We are pleased to introduce the 2024 recipient of our postdoctoral fellowship award. Antoine Frasie is currently pursuing his postdoctoral fellowship under the supervision of Professor Lynn Gauthier. This fellowship is made possible thanks to the Cancer Fund of the Université Laval Foundation.
Antoine Frasie is a clinician with ten years of experience in rehabilitation. His early research projects focused on the use of new technologies in rehabilitation and their clinical applications (Université Grenoble Alpes, France). During his PhD at Université Laval, he studied the development of shoulder fatigue in workers, using both quantitative measures (sensors) and qualitative approaches (perception scales). He also investigated the effects of extrinsic feedback on minimizing sensory and motor impairments resulting from repetitive tasks. His studies were designed to include diverse worker profiles, with a wide range of ages and a balanced representation of men and women, and to assess the influence of various biopsychosocial factors.
In oncology, fatigue as well as sensory and motor impairments are unfortunately common and disabling consequences of cancer and its treatments. Rehabilitation plays a key role in preventing disability, optimizing function in the face of treatment-related side effects, and supporting work retention and return to work. However, access to oncology rehabilitation services remains poorly understood in Québec. Antoine Frasie's work aims to characterize the organization of and experiences with access to oncology rehabilitation services. This research will help establish an initial overview to support better use of existing services and, if needed, guide the development of efficient and accessible oncology rehabilitation services in Québec.
